Cinnamon Girl available now and the history behind it
It’s funny how life takes its twists and turns. I met Reghert back when I was in college (saying it like that makes it sound like a thousand years ago). We weren’t in the same computer science class, but we had a few mutual friends.
Neither of us was into music at the time. Only my closest friends knew that I sang. I was always very shy, while he, with his slightly quirky personality, had the incredible ability to get along with everyone, or at least that’s how I saw it.
Life went on as it usually does, and it ended up taking us on different paths and to different countries. I “lost” (or, rather, “ignored”) my shyness and started posting covers on the internet—I made over 100. Then I started writing and producing my own songs.
Reghert went down the path not only of music production, focusing on electronic, techno, house, but also of being a DJ, which I think is incredible and suits his personality perfectly.
So when, out of the blue, after a long time without any contact, Reghert sent me a remix he had made from a video of me singing “Cinnamon Girl,” I was quite surprised.
First, because someone I know was spontaneously listening to me and liked it. Second, because the remix turned out so great that I wanted to make a full version!
After that, we talked a lot online, had calls, meetings, we’d send each other parts, discuss things—I re-recorded all the vocals, I worked on some parts, he worked on others, and in the end, we arrived at something that we’re both proud of and happy to have created.
It’s a reinterpretation of “Cinnamon Girl” that I think will appeal both to those who miss the time when I used to sing Lana Del Rey on YouTube and to those who enjoy electronic music, melodic house, etc.
The song just dropped today on all platforms, and I invite you to give it a listen! And if you do listen and feel like leaving a little message saying what you thought, I’d be really happy!
I want to extend my thanks to Reghert for all his talent in producing this collaboration and also for taking the initiative to pull me into this. It was great!
Pistachios for you,
Andre
